Fight Inequitable Taxes !
You have the obligation to stand up and fight against oppressive
taxation that will destroy the economic well being of our great
city. To date we have avoided the residential real estate crisis
faced by the rest of the nation. The city government has chosen
a course certain to cause irreparable harm to all of our lives.
Consider this...
Unfair Tax Rates
- Tax rate at 65th Street: 4.86%
- Tax rate at 86th Street: 1.78%
Unfair Valuations
- New car dealership worth less than a family
home in the same neighborhood
- Strip mall worth less than a cottage in the
same neighborhood
Terrible Consequences
- A school teacher with IPS had his taxes jump
$4,000 with no way to pay them and no way to sell his home.
- A fixed income retiree in his home since 1958 has seen his taxes
jump from $500 annually to more than $9,000.
- A coffee house in Broad Ripple cut staff and shortened hours
to stay open and meet rent increases after taxes caused a dramatic
rise in their monthly rent.
Non-Property Owners Suffer
- Local businesses must lay off employees and cease new hiring
to offset increase costs.
Suburbs Suffer Along with the City
- A depressed city center will affect all surrounding areas as
shown by the collapse of the Detroit Metro Area.
- Companies will not invest in suburban areas when the city center
is in decline.
